Is there a difference?

Republicans and Democrats are gearing up for anthoer mudslinging election cycle, yet the question beckons. Is thier a major difference between Democrats and Republicans? I would say no. Now before we continue, I belive I should disclose my political views for the sake of objectivity. I am a Laissez Faire Capitalist. Though I do not hold a allegiance to a single party, my views are solidly Libertarian. Now that we have that out of the way, let's continue with our disccussion. Republicans and Democrats are like a couple buying a house. They both agree they should buy the house, but the democrats want to buy a six bedroom house and the Republicans want to buy a five. Even if Republicans and democrats disagree on an issue its not really a philosophical disagreement. Take gun control for instance. Democrats would like to see a complete gun ban. Republicans want to see just "assault" weapons banned. Is that really a big difference? They both agree that weapons should be banned, they just disagree on which ones.

Maybe we should give more consideration to third parties.

Quote of the Day

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws."

Is there any difference between wanting to ban all guns and wanting to just ban assault weapons? Yes!!!! Are you kidding me?! That is like saying "Is there really a difference between aborting a pregnancy at 5 weeks and 6 months?"
Ask any farmer that has been raised with guns. They use them for hunting, sometimes to protect livestock, and sometimes to protect their families. When you live out in the country, noone will hear you scream for the police or help. My sister and I were once followed home at night by a car full of teen guys that had been trying to force us off a country road. They changed course as soon as our Dad opened the door with a rifle in hand.

There are huge differences between Democrats and Republicans. One wants the government to protect you from yourself and the other wants you to take responsibility for yourself for instance. I could go on and on about the differences but part of me is still hoping you are joking.

Generally people who don't see the difference between Republicans and Democrats are so far left or so far right that they can't make fine distinctions anymore.

The Democrats do not want to ban all weapons, nor take away guns from law abiding citizens; they simply want better control over who can purchase guns and prohibit assault weapons, which have no business in the hands of those not in law enforcement. As for the difference in the parties, the galloping conservatism has made it impossible for the Dems to even utter convictions, much less practice them.
